Poštovní dvůr (Post Yard) is a cultural sight with a nearly undisturbed architectural style that is more than 200 years old. The building was developed by a post master Josef Korb in 1791. The original purpose of Poštovní dvůr was to serve as a station for changing post horse teams. Its premises also offered a stable for 36 pairs of horse teams, sheds for stagecoaches, and a hayloft.
In the course of time, the building was transformed into a popular social center with a restaurant where concerts and balls were held. Its interiors boast of a true rarity: a preserved original hall with ceiling paintings by Josef Kramolín. This room is knows as Labitzký’s Hall. In the first half of the 19th century, the hall witnessed two performances of Angelica Catalani, a famous Italian singer. Even the fascinating virtuoso Nicolo Paganini gave a concert here. A plaque from the year 1961 reminds us that Poštovní dvůr was the first place in Europe on July 20, 1894, to listen to Dvořák’s Symphony from the New World given by the Karlovy Vary Spa Orchestra under the baton of Labitzký. One hundred years later, Poštovní dvůr underwent complete repair thanks the Cimex Company and the restaurant premises acquired its present look.
